• Antimicrobial Properties: Hydantoin derivatives like dibromo dimethyl hydantoin (DBDMH) are used as disinfectants and antimicrobial preservatives in pulp and paper mills. They help control bacterial and fungal growth in the process streams, which can lead to improved hygiene and reduced slime formation.
• Slimicide Applications: Hydantoin-based slimicides are used in both alkaline and acidic paper furnishes and are compatible with many papermaking additives. Their environmental and toxicity profiles are generally considered favorable.

• Dantrolene: This hydantoin derivative is a muscle relaxant that directly affects muscle tissue, rather than acting on the central nervous system like other muscle relaxants. It's used to treat malignant hyperthermia (a dangerous condition that can occur during anesthesia) in horses, pigs, and other animals. It's also used for other muscle-related conditions like porcine stress syndrome and equine exertional rhabdomyolysis.
