• White pigment extender: It is used as an extender in paint to enhance its properties and reduce costs. It works as a filler, improving the paint's whiteness, opacity, and ability to cover surfaces. 
• Functional Filler: It is used in paints as a functional filler to improve various properties of the coating film, including its mechanical strength, resistance to environmental factors, and cost-effectiveness. It enhances surface hardness, abrasion resistance, impact resistance, and weather resistance. 

2. Polymers & Resins

• Filler: It is used in polymers primarily as a filler to enhance various properties. It increases the density of the polymer, particularly in vibrational mass damping applications, and enhances opacity, acid and alkali resistance, and mechanical properties. 

3. Pharmaceuticals

• Radiopaque contrast agent: It is primarily used in pharmaceuticals as a radiopaque contrast agent. It helps visualize the gastrointestinal (GI) tract in X-ray examinations and CT scans. It works by coating the esophagus, stomach, or intestines with a material that doesn't absorb into the body, allowing diseased or damaged areas to be clearly seen on the imaging.

4. Construction

• Filler: It acts as a filler in concrete and mortar, increasing density and strength while reducing permeability. This makes the concrete more durable and resistant to cracking and erosion.

5. Pulp & Paper solutions

• Coating Pigment: It is added to the paper coating to improve its visual properties
• Brightness and Whiteness: Barium sulphate's white color contributes to the brightness and whiteness of the paper, making it more visually appealing.
• Smoothness: The addition of barium sulphate also improves the paper's surface smoothness.
• Printability: The enhanced brightness, opacity, and smoothness of the paper due to barium sulphate make it more suitable for high-quality printing applications.

6. Energy

• Densifying agent: It acts as a densifying agent in oil well drilling fluids by virtue of its high specific gravity. This high density increases the overall weight of the drilling fluid, which is crucial for controlling wellbore pressure and preventing blowouts during drilling operations.

7. Personal care

• Opacifying agent: It is used in personal care products as an opacifying agent, meaning it reduces the transparency of a product, making it appear less clear or translucent. It's also used to hide blemishes and improve coverage in makeup products like foundations, powders, and creams.
